Unless you own a Nexus S or Arc, chances are you’ve never caught a glimpse of the sleek design of Android’s 2.3 Gingerbread update. The Verizon iPhone has been expected to be the first device to bring such beauty to Verizon phone holders. Not released with the Gingerbread but the system has been seen running on “iDroid” configured iPhones, therefore giving Verizon owners their first shot at using the new update. But with screenshots now floating about the internet of the in demand update attached to the Droid X one must wonder: If Droid X is expecting pressure from the iPhone (which it is), could it try to beat the iPhone to the punch and release its update before the new iPhone? Hit the jump to discuss such a possibility. Android has to be more than troubled with the idea of a competitor running their newest and best update before its title named phones. So it would not be a surprise if they attempted to usurp Apple’s attempts at a quick draw. Now these have been unofficial updates throughout the community as certain Fascinate and Android AS WELL as iPhones owners have reported running the Gingerbread since December. As the available date for this version is unknown all one can do right now is speculate. This does practically guarantee that the Motorola Droid X2, expected out in May, will garner the Gingerbread. Android 2.3 Gingerbread -Faster: Google swears it’s the “fastest version of Gingerbread yet.” -Longer Battery Life: Google testifies that the system will kill any apps using too much power and police apps on a whole better than ever as it becomes “more active.” -Updated Color Scheme: darker and “simpler.” -New Keyboard: Utilizes multi-touch on not only the board but the text box. This includes highlighting, making cut and pasting much easier. -Supports Internet Calling. It’s been a game of wait and see as to when the Droid X and its fellow stable mates will get such a glorious update and now it seems that wait is over…almost.
